The Wyckoff Y is exhibiting the works of David Buckbinder through March 5th. David Buckbinder studied fine art at the Art Student’s League in Manhattan and art history at William Paterson University.

David’s art follows in the tradition of the Hudson River School which is experiencing a new wave of popularity today; though David’s passion for the art began long before the public’s recently renewed interest .

The Hudson River School originally began in the mid-19th century and embodied an aesthetic vision influenced by romanticism.  The paintings depict American landscape in a pastoral setting with human beings and nature coexisting peacefully.  Many of the founders of the Hudson River School  believed that nature reflected in the American landscape was a manifestation of God, but intended their paintings to rise above religious ideology.

David Buckbinder is an active member of the Ridgewood Art Institute and has won many awards at juried shows throughout New Jersey and New York. These shows include: the Best in Show at the Edgewater’s Arts and Music Festival 2009; Best in Show at the 45th Annual Art in the Park Show and Concert at Bergen County’s Van Saun Park 2009; First Place in Oils and Acrylics in the Ringwood Manor Art Association Juried Show; the Liquitex Art Award; and the DaVinci Award for Oil Painting. The Ringwood Manor Art Association featured David in an exhibit of award-winning artists and photographers entitled “The Winner’s Circle.”
