Wyckoff Day 2010

Wyckoff Day, hopefully a new tradition, was a profound success for visitors and participants who collectively “imagineered” an event unlike any other in the area. Combining the festivities of music, amusements, food & drink with the diversity of commerce and community in Wyckoff, the event offered something for everyone.

Local merchants and entrepreneurs mixed with tables promoting charities, civic groups and politics that reflected the vibrancy of life in Wyckoff. Each booth was a part of the whole fabric of community life in Wyckoff, celebrating the town’s identity and history.

Wyckoff Day reflected the values, interests, and aspirations of residents, merchants and volunteers. The Wyckoff Historical Society, the Volunteer Fire Department, The Rotary, Wyckoff PD, Wyckoff Ambulance Corps, and Wyckoff Education Foundation were side-side-by-side with the Democratic Party of Wyckoff and The Republican Party of Wyckoff. Charities such as Julia’s Butterfly Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and Friends of Wyckoff were neighbored with local jewelers, florists, and artisans.

While the Greek Festival sponsored by St. Nicholas in Wyckoff offers food with an amazing depth of ethnic charm, Wyckoff Day provided a breadth of choices that reflected the diversity of local restaurateurs and residents alike. Tables banked the edges of the expansive Wyckoff Y fields, and participants ate at leisure to the sounds of music from the stage set off in the distance. The day ended all to soon with a night time concert by a cover band playing the music of New Jersey’s favorite son, Bruce.

A sense of community and place are linked  by events like Wyckoff Day where different community voices validate the common, shared values of residents and visitors….Next year can’t come too soon.
