On February 6, an Allendale resident reported that her mother, who has Alzheimer’s Disease, is cared for by an aide in her mothers Wyckoff home. The daughter reported that the caretaker had taken advantage of her mother and got her to write a check in the amount of $450. Following a lengthy investigation and interviews, Det. Sgt. Joseph Soto charged the caretaker with theft. She was charged on a complaint with receiving a check for the purpose of purchasing items for the elderly woman, then failing to purchase those items, cashing the check and using the money for her own benefit. The complaint will be heard in municipal court.
A red light violation lead to the arrest of an Allendale man on criminal charges on April 16. At 12:43am, Ptl. Mark Tagliareni observed a vehicle make a left turn on a red light at the intersection of Wyckoff Avenue & Godwin Avenue. As the officer attempted to turn around to stop the vehicle, the driver quickly accelerated and drove into a business complex at the Mahwah border and turned off the headlights. During the traffic stop, the driver, age 20, was found to be in possession of a fraudulent Connecticut drivers license that had a date of birth that would have made him 23 years old. The driver was arrested and charged on a criminal complaint with possession of a fraudulent drivers license, failure to observe a traffic signal, reckless driving, driving without headlights, and violation of a provisional drivers license. He is scheduled to appear in municipal court on May 13.
A 44 year old Wyckoff man was arrested on April 18 for violating a domestic violence restraining order. The man, who only 6 hours prior was removed from his home after his 44 year old wife had obtained the court order following her complaint of threats and potential violence; violated the no contact order issued by the judge. He was arrested and charged with harassment and contempt of a domestic violence restraining order. He was released under $5,000 bail and the complaint will be referred to Bergen County Superior Court. Ptl. Brian Zivkovich, Ptl. Kevin Kasak and Ptl. Peter Goodman investigated.
