St. Elizabeth Toy Drive

Saint Elizabeth’s Second Chance Toys drive held in Wyckoff totaled up 200 toys destined for Honduras. The goal for Second Chance Toys is to rescue and recycle plastic toys for needy children throughout communities in the United States and the world. It is a community-based initiative, founded in 2006 by Sasha Lipton, a New Jersey native. Second Chance Toys brings some happiness to children in need, while also making a contribution to protecting the environment.

Wyckoff has always exhibited a deep commitment to the environment through its municipal recycling program and the many efforts made by The Friends of Wyckoff.  The event held by Saint Elizabeth brought together Wyckoff’s spirit of charity and concern for the planet to bring  children some simple pleasures.

The poverty level in Honduras is reflected in statistics such as:

  • 44% of the population living with under 2$ a day.
  • 25% of children below age 5 are underweight
  • 39% of children below age 5 are underheight
  • 21% of the total population is undernourished.

The spirit of the people can be seen in the accompanying videos. The first is a short clips capturing the resilience of children playing in the country side; the second video is a brief overview of the conditions created by poverty and climate.
