Saving Trees, No Monkey Business

savatreeSavATree, with a regional head office in Wyckoff, NJ, took part in a community service project this May at the Bergen County Zoo. SavATree’s staff donated their time to provide maintenance and developmental pruning around animal habitats and throughout the zoo in general.

The Bergen County Zoo offers residents an opportunity to observe a variety of animals, all living in habitats that recreate their natural homes. Maintaining a natural habitat for an animal in captivity can be crucial to their health, and trees play a vital role in replicating their natural surroundings. The pruning done by SavATree helps to enhance the beauty of the zoo in general, and assures a healthy environment for the animals.

Paul Carbone, a certified arborist working out of the Wyckoff office, said, “This is SavATree’s way of giving back to the community. I picked the zoo because, as an animal lover, I thought it would be a lot of fun.” Paul added, “The zoo and park are special to area residents so it’s very exciting for us to have the opportunity to make a contribution to such a worthy cause.”

Most people are aware of the attraction zoo’s have for children, but they may not be familiar with how the Bergen County Zoo also reaches out to the senior population. Teams of specially-trained zoo volunteers travel to nursing homes throughout Bergen County with animal guest on a monthly basis. Currently there are 23 facilities enrolled in this program, which is offered free of charge to Bergen County nursing homes and long-term care facilities.

The zoo is open every day from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm, and readers can click here to learn more about the numerous activities that are offered for every age group.
