New Sheriff in Town


andy1In some ways, Wyckoff reflects a bit of that nostalgia presented in the fictional town of Mayberry. There’s a commitment of citizens in their charitable works, strong civic organizations, and an active downtown environment. Now Add the story of one Benjamin C. Fox who grew up in Wyckoff and is now slated to take over the reigns of the Wyckoff Police Department.

Cheie Fox will be taking over for Cheif Ydo starting in May. The Ramapo High School alumnus and William Paterson graduate began his career with the Wyckoff Police Department starting in 1977. While the fictional sheriff Andy Taylor may have kept his boyhood hometown safe from serious crimes, Chief Fox has been on the job long enough that times have changed dramatically.

The recent economic crisis has led to an increase in home and vehicular burglaries through the country, and in Wyckoff. And while drug use may have seen some declines in certain areas, dangerous substances like heroin and crystal meth continue to be a major threat. New Jersey in particular is vulnerable on this front as it is a transportation hub for New York and Philadelphia
