Wyckoff’s Tara Reid is slated to star in The Beautiful Outsiders with award winning director Andrew Jones. The website IMDb.com–which is the premiere website for information on all movies old, new, and forthcoming–lists the movie as being in preproduction with a scheduled release date for 2009.
A fan website for Tara has started a petition to pressure the directors of the new Elm Street movie to cast Tara in the horror flick, but The Beautiful Outsiders seems like a golden opportunity for her to do some serious acting. Many actors pursue scripts in the indie film industry as a means of breaking out of the typecasted roles offered by Hollywood, and the lead character of Sarah Fugate could prove to be a turning point in this young actress’ career. The writer/director Andrew Jones, a native of Wales, has seen his own star rising rapidly due to the dedication he brings to the craft. His films are highly realistic and he devotes enormous time to researching his subject matter before bringing a film to the screen. Tara’s co-star will be Cameron Douglas son of Michael and grandson of Kirk Douglas.
Recent headlines of an event hosted by Tara in Chicago played into the party girl image, but the Chicago Sun Times reported she was,”…continually declining pricey champagne (and just drinking water)”. Although often hounded by the press for these non-newsworthy activities, Tara has been busy behind the scenes pursuing interests outside the film industry.
She is partnered in a new restaurant in West Hollywood that bears the all American name of Ketchup. A stylish eatery that brings a trendy presentation to some eclectic American fare. The menu offers reasonably priced Kobe burgers for 10$, to higher priced Kobe steaks for 40$. Selections vary from a Tuna Tartare to Momma’s Meatloaf. The restaurant has already franchised with a Ketchup now open on the eastern seaboard. Ketchup is part of the Dolce Group family of restaurants, and their other entities boast celebrity investors such as “That 70s Show” stars Ashton Kutcher, Laura Prepon, Danny Masterson and Wilmer Valderrama, in addition to Chris Masterson of “Malcolm in the Middle,” and Dule Hill of “The West Wing” and “Psych”.
Tara’s charity work also gets short rift in most celebrity gossip columns, but it’s work she has been involved in for years. Amongst many other charities, she has helped to benefit the National Animal Rescue and the Urban Health Institute, and recently helped promote a “green car” with other environmental activists. She also continues to support the efforts to cure muscular dystrophy, the picture above is from the Race to Erase MS gala in May 2008.
