Inserra Family to be Honored

The 2012 recipients of West Bergen Mental Healthcare’s Distinguished Service Award are Lawrence R. Inserra, Jr. and the Inserra Family.  This symbol of excellence, which is given each year to exceptional community leaders, will be presented to Larry Inserra and his family at West Bergen’s 35th Annual Brunch on Sunday, April 1st, 12 noon, at Seasons, in Washington Township, N.J.

In announcing the selection, Quentin W. Wiest, President of West Bergen’s Board of Trustees, said, “I am pleased to join with my fellow Board Members in congratulating Larry and his family on this prestigious award.  As a family they exemplify all of the qualities that West Bergen values.  Over the years, they have supported many worthy causes and West Bergen is one of the fortunate organizations to benefit from their generous spirit and devotion to others.  I know that the entire West Bergen Family joins me in congratulating Larry and his family and we are all looking forward to a wonderful Brunch on April 1st.”

Lawrence R. Inserra, Jr. is President of Inserra Supermarkets, Inc., one of the largest supermarket chains in the metropolitan area, which operates ShopRite stores throughout New Jersey and New York.  Inserra Supermarkets was founded in 1954.  The first store was located in Lyndhurst, New Jersey.  Today, Inserra Supermarkets operates a total of twenty-two ultra modern stores, designed with the educated shopper in mind.

“Proud to be a family business serving families”, the Inserra family stores have truly become an integral part of the fabric of each of the communities in which they are located.

In addition to his family business accomplishments, Larry provides leadership to a number of communities and other business organizations.  He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Wakefern Food Corporation, the Greater Alliance Federal Credit Union, the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey, the Hackensack University Medical Center, the Hackensack Economic Development Commission and the Mahwah Education Foundations.  He also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Community Resource Council, the Community Blood Services Foundation and the Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation.

Larry was born in Newark and raised in Rutherford, NJ.  He graduated from St. Joseph Regional High School in 1975.  While attending high school, Larry worked in the family ShopRite business.  He then attended Lehigh University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business and economics.

Larry has two children, Lindsey, 27 and Lawrence, 26.
