Arrest in Wyckoff

One of the most dangerous situations for police, perpetrators, and the public is when a suspect goes for an officer’s gun. This was the situation faced last week by Captain Benjamin Fox of the Wyckoff just outside the Boulder Run shopping center.

A Sussex County man was reportedly ramming other vehicles with his own until finally disabling it. The suspect refused to follow the instructions of Captain Fox who was investigating the incident, and the situation turned volatile on the sidewalks of Wyckoff. The suspect, identified in reports as Russell Stewart, became irate, throwing items from his trunk, and finally tried to get the police officer’s gun.

Captain Fox subdued the suspect with the aid of a hefty flashlight, and gained the assistance of a bystander who happened to be a volunteer firefighter. The firefighter was instrumental in getting Captain Fox’s handcuffs accessible while the suspect was being constrained.

The situation went from bad to worse, to safe in a short period, and the suspect was transported to the hospital and later arrested for attempting to disarm a police officer, aggravated assault on an officer, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and driving under the influence of narcotics. Additional charges are pending.

Indications of drug use might explain some of the bizzare behavior, but going for an officer’s gun can best be described in this corner of the world with the phrase, “You’re crazy.” In a place like Puerto Rico people might say,”Se volvió loco”, you’ve gone crazy. The Turkish expression would be “Keçileri kaç?rd?”, he became insane. The Swedish equivalent to the phrase is “Har du tappat förståndet!!??”, have you lost your senses!!.

The Romanians appear to have the most appropriate term to reflect the behavior of the suspect arrested in Wyckoff.”Ta prostit Dumnezeu??!!”, which translates to, -has God made you stupid?-.
